Your healthcare provider wants you to feel confident in the instructions they give you. If you know what you need to do and you know how it will help you feel better, you are more likely to make healthy changes in your lifestyle.

Start the conversation. The first step is letting someone know how you feel. If you notice changes in your body, your sleep, or your mood, talk to your healthcare provider.

Ask questions. There are a lot of medical words and ideas that can be hard to understand. Ask for help in knowing what something means. A good way to test if you understand your healthcare provider’s instructions is if you can repeat them to someone else.
