If you or someone you care for has heard the words, “You have cancer,” then you know firsthand that a cancer diagnosis can change lives.

In 2004, Lilly Oncology created Lilly Oncology On CanvasSM: Expressions of a Cancer Journey Art Competition and Exhibition to help people affected by cancer cope with the emotional side of the disease. The 2014 Oncology On Canvas competition marked the sixth competition and 10 year anniversary of the program. This biennial competition, presented in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), invites people from the United States and Puerto Rico diagnosed with any type of cancer—as well as their families, friends, caregivers and healthcare providers—to express, through art and narrative, the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journeys meaning.

The compelling art collection resulting from this competition provides insights into the wide range of emotions experienced by those touched by cancer. Artwork and narratives from the 2014 competition will be touring cancer centers, hospitals and patient advocacy events nationwide and throughout Puerto Rico in 2015 and 2016.
