The Lilly Diabetes - Disney Collaboration Screen shot

Lilly and Disney have created a variety of resources for families, including a special online hub and a series of custom Disney books for children of various ages and stages of life with diabetes.

The challenges of living with diabetes can be daunting for both the child and the entire family. Through this collaboration, Lilly and Disney hope to provide an empowering message for families with children who have type 1 diabetes–changing the focus from what they can’t do to what they can do.

The type 1 diabetes hub contains articles, videos and advice from caregivers raising children with type 1 diabetes and highlights ways for families to establish new routines and let kids be kids. The site features important topics such as how to plan for vacations, sleepovers and extracurricular activities as well as tips on how to talk to friends, teachers and coaches about type 1 diabetes.

The books are available through select health care providers’ offices. One such set of books, for younger children with diabetes, features Mickey Mouse's good friend Coco, a charismatic and fun-loving monkey who has type 1 diabetes. Junior novels are also available for tweens as well as a Disney cookbook for the whole family.
