Hearts in Harmony® is a health education program that provides heart patients with information about the physical and emotional aspects of recovering from a heart event. The Hearts in Harmony® website features a resource called the “Stent Hub,” specifically for patients who were treated with angioplasty (percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI), with a stent.
While there are many online resources for general heart disease, the Stent Hub is dedicated to providing educational information and support specifically for stent patients and their caregivers. The Stent Hub’s approach to recovery after the placement of a heart stent includes providing educational and motivational information that address the physical and emotional challenges a patient and their caregiver may encounter after a heart stent procedure.
Dr. JoAnne Foody, medical director, Cardiovascular Wellness Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital, who was involved in developing the program, notes, "I find that many patients who receive a stent have the impression their heart is 'fixed.' However it is vitally important to recognize that having a stent requires long term education, risk factor reduction and follow up too. Adherence to medications, as well as adopting a healthy lifestyle, is important to help prevent future heart events and maintain the stent's benefits."
The Stent Hub is an extension of Hearts in Harmony®, also sponsored by Mended Hearts, Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company.
